On December 18, 2020, FinCEN released a notice of proposed rulemaking (the “NPRM”) setting forth proposed regulations to expand the U.S. anti-money laundering rules on virtual currency. Financial institutions sometimes struggle with how to bank clients that provide virtual asset services. The webinar reviews the different types of virtual currency clients, documentation required to obtain at account opening and effective methods for monitoring these clients.

Virtual currencies are sometimes exchanged for U.S. dollars or other currencies around the world, but they are not currently backed nor supported by any government or central bank. Many financial institutions have clients that purchase virtual currency, are miners, exchangers and other participants in a virtual currency chain.
