Curriculum

Evolving Nature of Retail Banking

For the first time in many years the rate environment has created a host of new scenarios and conversations for retail bankers to navigate.  Customers are expecting higher rates and increased service and knowledge from banks that are struggling to keep staffing at appropriate levels in the current job market.  With bankers experiencing a curious new world working with depositors across the spectrum of rate sensitivity and banks working to keep up with the volume of activity, what new options should be explored?

Retail deposits discussions are now much more robust with retail bankers experiencing considerably more competitive pressures.  This session will discuss the science and art of dealing with competition for retail deposit balances and doing more with less staffing needs.  Enhanced science and art may require some adjustment in retail banker roles.

Specific topics will include:
  • The attributes of retail bankers that need to be respected and developed for success
  • Refining the processes for recruiting, equipping, training, and retaining retail bankers
  • The processes that bankers are using to have a consultative conversation
  • The enhanced products that are attracting and retaining depositor’s business without resorting to price wars
